Personally I’ve discovered some pretty nifty tricks to get my cat to do what I want. For example, I find that bribing my cat with his favorite treats to make him do something works wonders.

When he does something that isn’t good behaviour, sometimes I will say a curt but loud ‘cat’! Other times, I will do something like making the sound ‘ouch’. I will do this in a slow wine. Cat’s don’t seem to like this sound either and most of the time, they will stop the bad behaviour immediately!

Other tricks I’ve discovered are to repeat, repeat and repeat again the same actions. It won’t take long before you will learn how to train a cat using this simple technique. Funny thing is, kitty doesn’t even know that he or she if being trained!

So there you have it. Some starter tricks to get your cat to do what you want. Start discovering what is here for you on how to train a cat! Read the rest of this entry

As featured in Animal Planet’s America’s Cutest Cat 2010. To avoid being bitten and pounced on during kitty training, we have been using chopsticks and toothpicks to feed the kittens their treat. As seen in this video, this technique has worked particularly well with training “Gluteus,” where the kittens will sit up straight, balancing on their buttocks muscles (the largest of which is the gluteus maximus). Question by nekohakase: An odd cat toilet training puzzle…?
I recently adopted a 3-year-old cat whose previous owner trained it to use gel sheets for the toilet. The cat used to learn the sheets for urine but never for… number two. He insists on pooping on the floor. (Fortunately, the spot he chose is linoleum.)

I’ve convinced furball to use a litter box for urinating, now, but how do I get the cat to poop in the litter box too?

Best answer:

Answer by Bess2002
Provide your cat with a second litterbox for pooping in – many cats won’t poop in the same box they use to pee in. Make sure the box is large enough for the cat to move around freely in – if you’re using a covered litter box, try a large uncovered litter box. You may want to try using Cat Attract cat litter – you can find it in most pet stores. It’s designed for cats with litterbox problems.

Question by DC: How hard is it to train cats?
Nothing fancy like jumping through a hoop and stuff, but at least teach him to stay off the counters and to remember that a litter box is a cat’s best friend. How hard is it?

Best answer:

Answer by cjp
The reason cats avoid the litterbox is usually because it’s dirty. You need to clean it daily and be sure to replace the litter frequently.

Teach him to stay off the counters by enticing him up there with a bit of tuna and then squirting him in the head with a water bottle. They hate that. He’ll get pissed off and won’t talk to you for days, but at least you won’t have cat shit footprints all over your cutting board. Gross.

The same as in man, cats and kittens can develop awfully dangerous cat health problems. Among the list of most common and deadly types of condition a kitty might contract is feline leukemia virus disease., generally known as FeLV. Leukemia, and is also found in human beings, is a illness of the white blood cells. One can find three leading forms of this leukemia. At present, we are able to offer protection to our kittens and cats for FeLV using a vaccine, as a result it is important to have your pet up- to- date with medical care always.

With FeLV, currently, there are three cat health problem groups. The first are the leukemias, that are comparable to what leukemia can be like in people. This really is cancer of the white blood cells. Yet, not every FeLV illnesses are malignancy. Lymphosarcoma is the 2nd group. Also cancerous, this condition starts inside lymphoid cells round the lymph nodes. It has an effect on their abdominal region, kidneys, liver, spine, brain, blood, in addition to bone marrow. The third class will be the non- cancerous illnesses that fall under the umbrella of FeLV and can include immune suppression, anemia, as well as arthritis. Some of these cat health problem could also be fatal.

Felines are commonly exposed to FeLV each time they get into fights. FeLV is really a virus that is spread chiefly by way of saliva, and the open wounds your kitten gets through bites during a fight allow for the entry point into the body. Kittens are also able to acquire FeLV by sharing foodstuff and also water bowls, grooming one another, and also transmission from afflicted mother to little kitties. But if your kitten contracts FeLV, there may be a number of achievable results. Some varieties of the disease can not be cured, however, so prevention is important. Keep in mind, though, that a kitty can survive the disease for quite some time and so a veterinarian may help you choose a good course. Felines infected with FeLV can be unsafe to other kittens and cats, and so they need to dwell in confined single- kitty homes, or you can choose euthanasia.

So far, there have been no scientific studies that have found any relationship between this disorder in kittens and cats and conditions in human beings, therefore all your family members should be risk-free. That said, elevated- risk individuals should avoid contact with a unwell animal. This includes newborns, senior individuals, AIDS patients, in addition to chemotherapy patients. Because the strain can not exist for more than a few hours outside of the cat, you’re risk-free in having pet cats return to your house as soon as two days after your contaminated kitty is removed. Discuss with a veterinarian for more information.

We have 4 cats and they all look to do it – we do not actually want to have to give them away, so any tips would be most welcome.

Question by Joesuff: Does it help train cats to spray them with water?
I have two new kittens. The only problem they have is they jump on the dining room table (witch they are not allowed on). Is spraying them with a little squirt of water a good training method?

They do not respond to verbal commands no matter how loud.

Yes! It’s the only method that worked for me. You have to be persistant too though. Takes about 2 weeks for them to get it.

My cat LOVES all creatures that a cat would otherwise not like or be afraid of. I had a pet rabbit for a while and my cat would go in the cage and nuzzle him with his head and plop down next to him and pur. He also does this with our black lab dog (which the dog absolutely hates but he is well trained and will not bite the cat). He is extremely secure and he loves to roll onto his back and just sprawl and stretch his legs out when he’s taking a nap on your lap. I love my baby icon smile What is your favorite cat behavior, what is the cutest?

He also sometimes does not come in the house at night and in the middle of the night if no one is awake to let him in when he wants to come in, he’ll climb up on the roof and poke his head down to peek in the bedroom window and will meow until someone wakes up and see’s his little head poking down from the roof. When he see’s you get up, he’ll run to the door and wait for you to let him in. He’s so smart…kind of annoying at times, but very smart.
